Organic Amla Powder is made from the fruit of the Indian Gooseberry tree, also known as "amalaki" or "amla." Amla is a dehydrated, astringent-tasting fruit from India that is traditionally used in Ayurveda. Amla powder is often consumed internally, but it is also used externally for hair.

Our amla powder is freeze-dried. Sun-dried, which would make it very dark. The process involves converting fresh de-seeded amla fruits into powder at very low heat levels. The temperature is always kept below 104°F. This means that sensitive nutrients are retained throughout the process.

This product has been laboratory tested for heavy metals and complies with U.S. federal and state laws. Colors may vary.

Fine Grind Water-soluble.

No anti-caking agents used. Our product is 100% pure amla powder with nothing added. Clumps are normal and natural and can be broken up by crushing with the back of a spoon.

What is amla (i.e., amalaki, or Indian gooseberry)?

Species: Emblica officinalis, syn. Phyllanthus emblica.

Other names: Indian gooseberry, emblic myrobalan, amalaki

Appearance: Berries are greenish yellow with a fibrous inner texture. The powder is a deep brown color.

Commonly Used: Powdered

Origin: The Amla tree is of profound significance in Hinduism and is considered sacred to the goddess Lakshmi. So many people use organic amla powder as a cooking spice, and it is also used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to balance Pitta. This small to medium deciduous tree produces berries that ripen in autumn and must be hand-harvested from the top branches.
