What is black maca root powder?

The maca plant, also known as Lepidium meyenii or "Peruvian ginseng," is a member of the cruciferous vegetable family and is related to broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and kale.  It has been farmed for over 2,000 years and can withstand the severe climate that prevails in the Peruvian Andes at altitudes of more than 4,000 meters (m) or 13,123 feet (ft). Its natural habitat is the high Andean plateaus.

Historically, the inhabitants of the Andes used maca as food and also utilized it as a medicinal remedy to cure rheumatic sickness and respiratory ailments. Recently, items made with maca have seen a meteoric rise in popularity owing to claims that they may help boost libido and fertility. These days, maca is cultivated all over the globe, especially in the Yunnan region of China.

How do I use black maca root powder?

Maca comes in various forms, including powders and capsules. You can use maca powder in oats, baked goods, energy bars, smoothies, and other recipes. It goes nicely with many sweeter tastes because of its nutty, butterscotch-like flavor.

Black maca root powder benefits:

It is rich in glucosinolates, alkaloids, macamides, and macaridine, in addition to other vitamins, minerals, and fiber. But its benefits are inconsistent, and more research is needed to verify its claims. The following are some possible advantages of using Maca.

◉ Antioxidant Levels: The functional biological activities of the three primary phenotypes of maca were analyzed and compared in research that was published in 2018. According to the findings of the research, the lipids and polysaccharides found in black maca had a greater antioxidant impact than those found in red and yellow maca. Yellow outperformed red by approximately 25%, while black trailed behind by less than 10%.

◉ Metabolism: According to the findings of research that was published in the journal "Frontiers in Pharmacology" in 2018, black maca extract protects against metabolic diseases by assisting in the regulation of glucose, which is an essential metabolite for humans. Red blood cells only use glucose as fuel, and the brain uses approximately half of its total caloric intake as glucose. According to the findings of this research, black maca stimulates the body's natural synthesis of glucose, which may contribute to a more robust metabolic process.

◉ Sperm Production: Between the years 2006 and 2016, a number of substantial independent investigations were conducted on the effects that the black-colored roots of maca have on both the production and mobility of sperm. The first major research on the subject, completed and published in 2006, found that black maca was the only color shown to enhance sperm production effectively in rats. Furthermore, the study discovered that "Black Maca influences sperm count as early as one day after initiating treatment."

According to the findings of a second study that was conducted in 2006, "...black maca increased epididymal sperm count after 84 days of treatment" in the male rats that were investigated. In addition, the study ultimately arrived at the conclusion that, in comparison to other hues of maca, "black maca appeared to have more of a beneficial effect on sperm counts and epididymal sperm motility."

In 2016, researchers discovered very similar findings, including an increase in the average daily sperm production. The researchers observed that improving an animal's diet with black maca root for a period of 12 weeks had a beneficial effect on the animals' sperm motility as well as their sexual dysfunction. The research was conducted on mice.

Memory: In 2011, two separate studies, one conducted in China and the other in Peru, discovered that the use of black maca helped laboratory mice enhance their memory and attention abilities.
