What is cinnamon bark (India)?

Popularly used as a spice in cooking, cinnamon is an important ingredient in most cuisines. However, not many people are aware of the health benefits that other parts of the plant can provide. Cinnamon bark provides quite a lot of amazing health benefits and is used in the treatment of many conditions. Cinnamon exists in different species and forms. Perhaps the most common source of cinnamon bark is Ceylon cinnamon, which is also referred to as Cinnamon verum. Ceylon cinnamon powder is known as true cinnamon and is strictly used for medicinal purposes.

While cinnamon itself has a rich history of use as a spice and for aromatic purposes, the external region of the bark from which the Ceylon cinnamon benefits emanate is not as widely known or used. Currently, Indonesia and China are regarded as the major producers of cinnamon, as these regions produce over 75% of the world’s cinnamon supply. The earliest use of cinnamon dates back to ancient Egypt, when it was imported from China.

It was originally confused and wrongly identified as Cassia, seeing as it provided similar features and attributes. Upon discovery of these peculiar benefits, the ancient Egyptians began to apply cinnamon and its bark to common cultural practices such as cooking and many other activities. Like cassia cinnamon, the ancient Egyptians used cinnamon bark in their embalming processes and as an additive to create aromatic incense. In appearance, the cinnamon tree from which the Ceylon cinnamon powder is sourced has an evergreen look with thick bark, berry fruits, and oval-shaped leaves.

Cinnamon side effects:

While cinnamon provides some really amazing health benefits when taken in small quantities, it may be harmful when overly consumed in large doses. Rare cinnamon oil dangers may include mouth sores and interaction with other medications.

Cinnamon Bark (India) benefits:

Unlike the spice used in cooking, the Ceylon cinnamon powder obtained from the bark of the Ceylon cinnamon tree is used only as a medical material. The health benefits that contribute to the popularity of Ceylon cinnamon brands include the following:

Premature ejaculation:  As one of its earliest uses, Ceylon cinnamon bark helps to reduce spasms and relax body muscles. This action makes it effective in fighting premature ejaculation and is perhaps the reason for its use in certain sexual function improvement creams.

Yeast infection: Taking Ceylon cinnamon may help in fighting off a yeast infection. This is especially true for people suffering from thrush and mouth sores.

◉ Salmonella: Anyone who has suffered from a salmonella infection knows how terrible it can be. Thankfully, consuming cinnamon bark can help with treating common cases of salmonella infection.

◉ Weight loss: Research has shown that people who are trying to lose weight may benefit from adding Ceylon cinnamon to their diets.
